December has been a month full of miracles for our family. I think I'd feel entirely ungrateful if I didn't make a quick post about them so that I'll always be able to look back and remember to be thankful for our blessings.
Miracle #1
After extensive testing and being told I was a mystery, I finally found a doctor who knew what was causing the pain in my side.
Turns out it's something called costochondritis, and I have it in the joint between the bottom ribs and the sternum. And no, that is not the fear of going to Costco. ;) He said it's akin to arthritis, but not as permanent. And it's not a big deal.
The doctor told me if it were a wrist, he would splint it; but, since you can't splint ribs, he gave me a little "breathing machine" to help work the area around it. With any luck, it won't come back again!
Miracle #2
We hit a low point a couple of weeks ago when our loan agent told us there was absolutely no way we would close on our house before Christmas, and maybe not even before the end of the year.
The next day we went to talk to our real estate agent to let her know, and she told us to go ahead and move in. They'll even waive the rent for us till the end of the year, in hopes that it will close before then! So by the time you are reading this, we'll be in the middle of moving!
(edit)Miracle 2.5: I just heard the MIL say "We're going to miss them, but they need their own space"! I've felt so bad abut all the delays we've had, and that we've been in their basement for so long... so it's nice to know they're thinking "We'll miss them" instead of "It's about time!"
Miracle #3
We survived the snow storm.
I know that doesn't sound like a miracle, but trust me. I have a cute little Ford Focus. It's a great commuter car, but it is a far cry from an all-terrain vehicle.
We took this car to the city last weekend to go to a family Christmas party, but a storm moved in on our way back. We watched the weather reports and thought we would be ahead of the storm on our way back, but we were wrong.
For a stretch of about 24 treacherous mountain miles (from the summit to past the reservoir) we were scared out of our minds. Between the high winds, ice on the road, and snow drifts, my car could barely handle half the speed limit and stay in the lane.
We slid, wiggled, and inched our way towards home, all the while praying hard that we would make it alright. As soon as we had cell service, I called my parents and asked them to pray for us, too.
I should have known how powerful the prayer of a parent is. Within 10 minutes of that call we reached the edge of the storm and the wind died down, and with it the snow drifts, and the roads were clear.
I know we wouldn't have made it home safely without the Lord's help.
Miracle #4
The snow stopped.
With a move-into-our-new-house date set on Wed, Dec 19... we were pretty excited to count down the days. That is, until a massive snow storm started dumping on our town. By the end of the night, we already had 6 inches, and we were supposed to get at least 2 more overnight.
We jokingly blamed Nick's coworker. He's rather gifted at jinxing, whether accidental or intentional. Back in October, he said something offhanded about it snowing when we're moving in. So, we've basically known this was going to happen... but it's nice to have a scapegoat ;).
When we woke up the morning of moving day, we looked outside to see the storm had passed! We don't know if the roads will be 100% cleared, but if all looks well in a couple hours, we'll be on our way, finally out of the basement!
I know these may not all seem like miracles to you, but I know there was someone looking out for us, helping move things along. I am so grateful to have an understanding of our gospel and for the light it brings into our lives. Without it, things like this just look like luck, but I am thankful I have an occasional glimpse into something greater.
