| Reese's Peanut Butter Bars |
Everyone that sees these images rants and raves about how AMAZING they look (and they're right). And it's even better, because the writer of the recipe is hilarious. Seriously... check it out.
I decided about 5 minutes into the whole Pinterest thing that I was going to actually DO the things I pinned whenever possible, so when I saw these I was ready to go! I put everything together, stuck it in a cooler, and took it to FHE with the bro & sis. We played a game or two, then pulled out this wonderful miracle dessert to eat while we watched a movie. In my head is a repeating loop of the chorus from The Beatles' song Don't Let Me Down. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. But really, how could I go wrong? You've seen the pictures, they're amazing!
Sadly. Unfortunately. It was dreadfully disenchanting. *insert really loud and forlorn "wah wah wah" sound here*
The peanut butter layer was gritty, and the top chocolate layer tasted odd, was hard and broke off from the bottom section. It was a fight just to get the chocolate and peanut butter pieces together on the same fork. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the bars were left in the fridge for too long, which made the top layer more brittle (which still doesn't account for the nasty grittiness). Whatever the reason, I was sufficiently embarrassed that this recipe flopped so dramatically.
Eric asked for seconds, but I think he was just being nice... the rest of us didn't finish our grits bits.
Bummer.
HOPEFULLY, I just did something wrong (although I followed the recipe exactly, so I don't see how that would have happened), because these truly do look delectable. Maybe they need more peanut butter in the top layer and less graham crackers in the bottom? I don't know.
Please please please, if you try this and it comes out non-gritty and more blendy, will you let me know? They looked so promising! Until then, this recipe is going firmly in my "Sadly Disappointing" folder (or should that be a new pinterest board? *wink*).

I'm always grateful for a Pinterest post! There is a blog that has a "Pinterest Tested" segment that I love. It has kept me from doing a few flop pins!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThose peanut butter bars sound absolutely divine! I might have to try them and see how they turn out for me. :) It's too bad they didn't work out for you, though. Having a food item involving peanut butter and chocolate that doesn't work out is the ultimate tragedy.
