It's almost done!

So much has changed!

After almost 2 weeks of not a lot of progress, our house has suddenly become a flurry of activity! As soon as our floors were delivered, there were suddenly people EVERYWHERE measuring, cutting, installing, gluing, and wiping.

Yesterday we stopped by during Nick's lunch break, and this is what we saw!

Floors!

And cabinets!

And here's our notorious shower. (Story below)

Then after work we came back again, and found this!

Ignore the creepy reflection... just look at the beautiful porch.

Shower Story: We originally planned this shower to have a half-wall on the side next to the toilet... for obvious don't-need-to-see-that reasons. We were surprised when we came back after work to see this... minus the half-wall.

The installer was there, and he told us it would have been framed in already if it was supposed to be there. He also said if it was his house, he wouldn't put it in anyway, because the glass gives you an extra 3 inches by the toilet. (He might have just been trying to avoid having to do more work, but I'm sticking with the just-giving-honest-advice angle.)

We called our contractor, and he apologized profusely. Turns out it slipped through the cracks. The only way to fix it was to rip up everything installed around where the wall would be, including the drywall, then frame the wall in and start over.

In short, it would have been a time-consuming and labor-intensive hassle.

A hassle that we paid for... but still a hassle.

So, after some slightly stressful last-minute discussion, we decided that if we could get some extra shelving and some obscured glass, we'd be okay with having a full glass side.

I told our contractor that I figured building a house was like planning a wedding day. You know something's going to go wrong somewhere. You just have to accept it and deal with it as it comes. XD

The bad news - There is no way to have the shower done by the time we were originally planning on closing.

The good news - We can still close when we were planning if we want to, we'd just have to use the shower in the other bathroom until the glass could be shipped and installed.

The other good news - Our contractor is pretty rad. Yeah, it slipped through the cracks, but he jumped right into action and talked options with us to find a way to fix it. AND. He's been just like that through the whole process from the beginning. I am so grateful we found such an honest, hardworking, trustworthy and ethical guy to work with. It's been a blessing.

The End is in Sight!
So for now...  our final walk-through is scheduled for Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. After that, we'll just be processing paperwork and waiting for everything to be finalized.

(I'm secretly hoping it gets delayed until the end of the next week... because if our loan closes on Dec 1, it gives us an extra month before we have to make our first mortgage payment!)

It's getting so close! I've got my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly!
