I'd Like S'more Please

Somewhere in the middle of our fence project, the Hubster decided that wasn't enough work for him, so he did a side project that I LOVE!

Where he works, they had some leftover ducting that had just been sitting around for a few months. He asked what they were going to do with it, and they said they were going to throw it away! He asked if we could take it instead, and he was so excited when they said yes!

So he struck a deal with his truck-owning coworker. If he hauled it, the Hubster would cut it and they could each have half.

And thus, the Dennis family fire pit was born.

He must have been pretty excited about this, because he dug a 3' deep by 2' wide hole through the insanely hard clay in our backyard to put it in. Once it fit, he just filled it back in, layered with some gravel to help with the heat. This whole project only cost us the price of 2 bags of lava rock that we put on top.

Of course... it wouldn't be a Dennis family project if it was THAT simple! The eventual plan is to have rocks built up around the side and on top, so you won't see the metal. It'll also be surrounded by a cement patio that fills in the corner of the yard. But. That'll be a project for another time.

In the meantime, we're just loving how it is! We've already had a few people over to make s'mores, and we keep looking for more excuses to do it again!

BTW: I thought the best way to make s'mores was with the chocolate covered graham crackers. I was wrong. Trust me on this one. Go to the store, look for the chocolate covered graham crackers... then look above, below, and to the side till you find the ones that have peanut butter in them too. Peanut butter and chocolate covered graham crackers. Take two, insert mallow.

You can thank me later.
