The Fence Saga: Part 3 - Family Edition

This is really the only picture I got of the rails going up. I spent all my time putting them up, and completely forgot to take pictures! We worked on putting these rails up all week, starting after the Hubster got home from work and ending when it was too dark to work anymore.

I also took this, which shows the finished odd-side-out rails. Our neighbors did a two-rail system and they wanted all of their sides to match. So we put up two rails on that side, and they painted them white.

Once all of the rails were up, I spent an entire day while the Hubster was at work staining the back sides of the rails so they'd be weather-proofed under the pickets (I thought it would just take a few hours. I was wrong.)

We finished the rails just in time! My wonderful, amazing, fantastic, cherubic, unfailingly awesome family came out to help us put the pickets up! They all made the 2.5 hour journey to our home on a Friday night, spent the night, then we spent all day Saturday getting the pickets up. Please prepare yourself for a picture overload.

The first side done...

and on to the back!

This picture segues perfectly from fence to family.
See? It's a great picture of the finished corner, AND a great picture of my sister and her latest addition. :)

I still can't decide if I was more excited about the fence being finished or the time I got to spend with these munchkins. I miss them now that we're so far away!

She found the leftover sheep ears I had put in our toy bin. So she made herself a tail out of some paper towels and struck this pose for me. Right before she did it, she said "I'm feeling sheepish..."
I seriously almost FELL OVER it made me laugh so hard!

Also, I can't get over how much I love this picture.
There's nothin' like a bowl full of goldfish crackers on a Saturday afternoon.

And Zooey had a friend to play with and keep her entertained (and out of our hair).

It was such a great weekend, for so many reasons!

Funny story about the pickets: We calculated that we needed 500 pickets. When we ordered them, the man at the store asked us if we could do 512, because then it was an entire pallet of pickets and he could give us a discount. We agreed, and figured we'd just have a few extra "in case" pickets.

This is what our fence looked like by the end of the weekend. We were short by less than 20 pickets!

I thought I would freak out when this happened, but all I could do was laugh. I mean, you have to admit it's pretty funny that we got this close, then ran out of pickets! The place we bought them from is closed on the weekends, so that was the end of our work for the day!
