The Fence Saga: Part 2

THE NEXT DAY

We were so incredibly beat by the next day! It took a considerable amount of willpower to get started, knowing that there were 36 holes outside just waiting to be cleaned out and dug down in places.

By nothing short of a miracle, we found out that morning that there were a couple of scouts in our neighborhood raising money to go to the National Jamboree. We figured: donate to scouting = get some help with our fence. That's just a no-brainer. Done.

With their help, we got all holes cleaned out. They even dug through a couple of the holes that the auger couldn't. I told them they'd earned BEAST status and treated them to some Rice Krispies and Lunchlady Peanutbutter Bars. It was such a lifesaver to have them come over! Our fence would have taken another extra week without their help!

After they left, it was just me and the Hubster for a while. I got to become pretty familiar with this:

In fact, this was basically my entire life for about 2 days. I'm basically a cement-mixing expert by now.
(The fact that I couldn't walk when we were done because my back didn't appreciate being bent over a mixer for hours on end is irrelevant.)

Unfortunately, because I spent all my time mixing, I really didn't get any good pictures of the goings-on. The Hubster's dad came over and helped us get our posts set. So I mixed, and they set. It took quite a while, but we are SO grateful that he was willing and able to come help us out!

I WAS able to get a picture of the one casualty of war we had.
So long, fair fence-post-level. You served us well.

The MIL stopped by with some cookies, too. So life really just wasn't that bad. :)

Once we got all the posts set, the hubster decided to put up a couple rails to give me a sneak-preview of the next step. Doesn't that just look so exciting?? (If your answer was "no", then you've clearly never spent two days setting fence posts before.)

Looking back on it now, I can say, with absolute certainty, that this was my least favorite part of putting up the fence. After this, everything else just seemed so much easier! We were definitely glad when that last post was done!
