The Tuesday after my family came out, we ran to the store and bought the rest of the pickets we needed. We worked late into the night to get it finished. When they installed the pickets, they put one screw in each rail to speed up the process. So that night I finished drilling screws into the pickets while the hubster worked on putting the last of them up to finish the gate.
We had to wait for the wind to stop blowing (which never happens out here), but later that week there was finally a break one morning so the Hubster jumped at the chance and busted out our new power sprayer.
We rationalized the purchase by saying that we saved so much money going with a wood fence instead of vinyl that it was okay to splurge... and I'm glad we did. What could have taken us a week took him 2 hours. By that point, it was very worth it.
Stain vs Untreated. I was really nervous about this color... I literally spent 10 minutes at the hardware store looking back and forth between their color options and a picture of our house on my phone. I finally ended up choosing a redwood finish, and I absolutely love it! I'm so glad it turned out the way it did!
The home stretch- the last corner!
We both got a fake tan from the stain in places. Between the blotches on my arm and his forehead and cheek bones, I *almost* wished he had just sprayed us both so we had a "summer glow"!
I'm kidding, I'm kidding! Calm down! ;)
These shoes were white before he stained. Good thing we were going to throw them out anyway! Although... the stain does a pretty good job of hiding how thrashed they are, so he'll probably keep them around through the summer while we do the rest of the yard.
That afternoon, we used some leftover wood and blocked off the places where we need to raise the dirt along the fence line. Then it was play time for Zooey!
She LOVED being off-leash in the backyard! It was pretty hard to get a good picture of her, because she was running all over the place and goofing off with everything she found.
Want to know what that weird shiny thing sticking out of the ground is? I'll tell you here.

That fence is GORGEOUS.
